Senators Plagued By Uneven Cooperation

This week, despite a few flickering moments of brilliance, the Ottawa Senators were plagued by uneven cooperation, lackluster performances, and mediocre sportsmanship. Luckily, the Sens were able to tap into their skill when it came to necessity, and were even able to claim a victory. Still, penalties remain a huge issue for the Sens, and their lack of stability left the team hanging on for dear life.

Following their 2-4 defeat at the hands of the Calgary Flames on Saturday November 15th, the Senators took on the Nashville Predators on Thursday November 20th at the Canadian Tire Centre. The riveting game ended with the Senators claiming a 3-2 victory, thanks in large part to the efforts of goaltender Robin Lehner. The Ottawa goalie blocked 33 shots, and was on the ball during the third period. Near the end of the third period, the Predators unleashed a torrent of merciless shot on Lehner. But the goaltender held his ground, even as the Predators outshout the Senators 16-3 in the third. Evidently, the team is significantly enriched by the prowess of its goaltenders.

On Saturday November 22nd, the Sens welcomed the St. Louis Blues to the Air Canada Centre. The Blues ended their two-game losing streak by reaping a 3-2 win against the Senators. The Blues were particularly poignant in the third period, as they allowed merely five shots in the third on goaltender Brian Elliot. Meanwhile, Senators centre Mika Zibanejad and captain Erik Karlsson both scored for the Senators on the power play. Interestingly, this was Zibanejad’s first goal in nine games. Hopefully, this signifies that Zibanejad is ready to step of his great, and utilize the potential that we all know he is capable of.

The Senators have quite the week ahead of them! On November 24th, they’ll take on the Red Wings at Detroit’s Joe Louis Arena. On November 25th, they’ll travel to Scottrade Centre to battle it out with the St. Louis Blues. Then, on November 28th, the Sens are off to Florida’s BB&T Centre to face the Panthers. Finally, on November 29th, they’ll head to the Tampa Bay Times Forum to face the Lightning!
